Both Taylor Swift and Stephen King are household names and beloved celebrities. What some fans might not know, however, is that Taylor Swift teased a shocking connection between the two.
In light of Swift’s incredibly popular Eras Tour, a 2021 interview has resurfaced online. The interview took place on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. Colbert brought up her song “Hey Stephen” which led to Stephen King’s name being added to their conversation.
First, Colbert asked if the song was about him, and Swift gave a very precise response:
“No, Stephen, I first recorded that song in, like, 2008. I think I was 18?” Swift replied, adding, “While you were probably 44-years-179-days-old, give or take a couple hours.”
Colbert adds how specific the response is. And, with a note of seriousness in her voice, she declares herself to be “a big fan.” She then brings out a mood board, one loaded with photos of Colbert, and further explained how the song had nothing to do with him. In fact, Taylor Swift finally mentions Stephen King and claims that the Pet Sematary author was the true inspiration for “Hey Stephen.”
“I wasn’t prepared for this to be an extremely hard-hitting interview… but if you really want to know the truth, and I’ve never revealed this to anyone, ‘Hey Stephen‘ is about Stephen King,” Swift concludes.
“He’s amazing. The Dark Tower series changed my life, plus The Shining, The Stand, and don’t even get me started on his short stories,” she adds. “Absolutely luminescent.”
It’s a shocking reveal and one that certainly could make any Stephen King fan take a double take. Of course, the majority of their discussion is based on comedic timing simply intended for the show. But one can’t help but imagine Swift must really be a fan of Stephen King, especially to elaborate so much on his stories including The Dark Tower.
If nothing else, one can take note of Taylor Swift’s sense of humor and hope that she gets more into acting at some point in the near future. Especially with rumors that she could be playing Dazzler in Deadpool 3. Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates on Swift and her career as we have them.
