A new international horror movie has reached the top spot on Netflix. It’s always exciting when a genre movie manages to reach the top spot on Netflix’s streaming platform. Interestingly, this particular movie is being compared to Scream by viewers of the film.
Scream is praised by fans of the horror genre for its use of horror, comedy, and satire. It’s a blend of tropes and ideas that has allowed the franchise to succeed for decades and spawn numerous sequels. And while this particular film on the number 1 spot according to FlixPatrol likely won’t have the same impact, Killer Book Club still seems to be a hit with viewers.
Here are some of the responses shared via X by those who’ve seen the film:
Killer Book Club has college students complaining about this terrible spot that the school let them have and like… design on this must have cost a fortune? What part of this doesn’t rip? [Also classic @DoNatoBomb reds throughout the film.] pic.twitter.com/clQgUDUt5a

Killer Book Club (2023 Netflix)- A good #slasher #horror film reminiscent of I Know What You Did Last Summer and #Scream with the killer wearing a clown outfit. A group of horror writers at college become part of a creepy story unfolding online. 4 out of 5 stars#HorrorMovies pic.twitter.com/lavTNQ776S

As for the plot of Killer Book Club, here’s the official synopsis:
“Eight horror-loving friends fight for their lives when a killer clown who seems to know the grim secret they share begins to pick them off, one by one.”
Obviously it’s not difficult to see how, with a premise like that, the movie can be compared to Scream. Of course, the film also shares whodunnit elements with a number of other slasher films, including Friday the 13th, so there is that appeal too.
Either way, it goes to show that the slasher genre is still going strong, and that it’s still a winning formula. Hopefully this means Netflix will provide viewers with even more slasher films going by the success of Killer Book Club.
Carlos Alonso-Ojea directed the film from a screenplay penned by Carlos Garcia Miranda.
The cast for the film includes Veki Velilla, Álvaro Mel, Priscilla Delgado, Iván Pellicer, María Cerezuela, Ane Rot, and Carmela Lloret.
