The second season of the hit Marvel series Loki is set to hit Disney Plus very soon. As such, new theories are circulating and now one Loki theory suggests an interesting possibility for the MCU‘s afterlife.
The show’s first season introduced the Time Variance Authority, otherwise known as the TVA, and they exist outside of space and time. Their goal is to preserve the “Sacred Timeline” by managing the flow of time. This includes leaping to different universes or altogether “pruning” additional timelines.
The following Loki theory, however, is based on the existence of areas like the Ancestral Plane from Black Panther. Essentially trying to puzzle together whether or not the TVA is responsible for monitoring the afterlife as much as they are the Multiverse. Users are now discussing such matters on Reddit.
The discussion began when one user asked whether or not the TVA could “access and detain someone in the Astral Plane.” Which, of course, is a good question. Especially given how characters seem to travel from one universe to another so easily. Ultimately, users seem to agree that the TVA probably wouldn’t need to, however, as it wouldn’t really effect the “Sacred Timeline.” And, if it did, then the TVA could merely prune the universe in which the occurrence happened rather than following the character into the afterlife.
Of course, if Marvel at some point has a plan for the TVA to become more involved with the afterlife, then we could see some major surprises in the future. For now, however, they’ll probably be keeping things simple and only keep the TVA involved with the Multiverse.
The first season of Loki is currently available to watch on the Disney Plus streaming service. MCU fans will be able to stream Loki Season 2 on October 6, 2023.
