James Gunn is no stranger to backlash – especially the kind that stems from resurfaced social media posts. He was also well-aware of the backlash he’d receive taking over as co-head of DC Studios. Now, however, James Gunn is facing backlash from fans that have uncovered his alleged posts from years ago where he’d bashed Tim Burton’s Batman and Christopher Nolan’s Batman Begins.
Both Tim Burton’s Batman and Christopher Nolan‘s Batman Begins are credited with having greatly influenced the titular character’s direction. As such, they’re held in high regard by fans, and many feel it’s insulting to have discovered that James Gunn himself is seemingly not much of a fan.
As you can see below, users on X are compiling old Facebook posts from an account that appears to have belonged to Gunn. The posts are more than a decade old, however, and so it should be taken with a grain of salt how valid – if at all – they are today. But it certainly suggests what route Gunn could take his DC Universe and the role of Batman within it.
Here are the alleged posts:
absolutely no one hates DC more than James Gunn 💀 pic.twitter.com/I3CdZGkjks

It’s worth pointing out that one user suggested the posts were not real:
These comments circulating from James Gunn on Facebook from 11 years ago are false. RT to share it please 🙏 pic.twitter.com/4iSBlUriI9

That is not the case at all lol One of them is a facebook page, the other one is his account. He has both, and he’s recently turned to only using his facebook account and has a bunch of recent posts.

Normally Gunn replies to these types of things, so it’ll be interesting to see what happens here.
James Gunn and Peter Safran are currently spearheading DC Studios in an effort to deliver a new shared cinematic universe. This franchise will include both film and television shows, and live-action and animation, as it attempts to connect DC’s beloved superheroes and supervillains in the same continuity. As such, a new DCU Batman movie titled The Brave and the Bold is in the works. And so we could expect a take very unlike those found in the works of Burton and Nolan. Of course, it’ll be interesting to see then how fans could react to such a film. Especially since the new DCU will no doubt be dependent on its reception.
