The Marvel Cinematic Universe’s first animated series, What If…?, is set to return for a second season. Excitingly enough, it looks like we’ll be seeing the return of a fan-favorite MCU character.
Many characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe have either retired or been killed off as the franchise sets its sights on new heroes. However, animation is a medium that offers all-new possibilities, and that’s the entire premise behind What If…?. Now, as you can see below, it looks like this will allow the return of none other than Steve Rogers.
Steve Rogers, otherwise known as Captain America, has since passed on his shield to Sam Wilson. As such, fans have come to know Wilson as the new Captain America. In What If…?, however, he’ll be making a return with a brand-new Hydra Stomper suit. This was revealed in some leaked merchandise for an upcoming figure.
Here’s a look at Steve Rogers in his new Hydra Stomper armor:

The actual figure pictured is from Hasbro’s “Build-A-Figure” line. This means that the figure comes in pieces sold with other Marvel Legends figures. And, for those who manage to purchase all of the toys, they’ll be able to literally put together Steve Rogers as he’ll be depicted in the next season of What If…?. Interestingly, the armor does look somewhat different from what Rogers wore in the first season of the series. Either way, he does come with the likeness of live-action actor Chris Evans (albeit in animated form.)
It’s currently unknown when the next season of the hit animated series will drop on Disney Plus. Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates regarding What If…? and the rest of the Marvel Cinematic Universe as we have them. For now, it looks like fans can expect to see Steve Rogers make a comeback sooner rather than later.
