The unstable libraries that come with streaming, including the likes of Netflix and Disney Plus, are striking yet again. It looks like one of the most iconic cinematic trilogies of all-time is being removed from Hulu. Specifically, Hulu subscribers better start their Lord of the Rings marathons soon because September is when they’re being removed.
As shared by Disney on the official Hulu website, the following films from Peter Jackson’s film franchise have been removed:
The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers
The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King
The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey
The titles are set to be removed from the service on September 30. This gives subscribers a little over a month to view the films. Interestingly, the service didn’t offer the other films in the franchise, which include The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, and The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies.
Fortunately, there are other avenues for fans to stream the film franchise. In fact, all of the films are currently available on the streaming service Max. This is likely due to the fact they were all released by Warner Bros. Additionally, this probably explains why they’re being removed from Hulu, and they’ll probably be licensed by Warner Bros to another streaming service in the future. Interestingly, there’s the ongoing series The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, but that particular series belongs to Amazon and fans can currently stream it on Prime.
The franchise is also set to continue under Warner Bros. with an all-new reboot coming from both WB and New Line Cinema. As such, fans will have plenty of Lord of the Rings projects to look forward to. Hopefully we’ll have more details soon. In the meantime, for those Hulu subscribers eager to catch up, it looks like they’ll have to hurry before the Lord of the Rings films are removed.
