Many characters from pre-MCU adaptations are expected to return in several upcoming projects. As the Marvel Cinematic Universe grows to include the Multiverse, it seems like anything is possible, and now a potential return from Nicolas Cage as Ghost Rider is being rumored.
Nicolas Cage first portrayed the aforementioned antihero in the 2007 film Ghost Rider. He returned to portray the role in the film Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance in 2012. Now, more than a decade later, it looks like Nicolas Cage could play the part yet again. And considering the actor’s popularity – it’s no surprise.
The fan-favorite actor has been at the center of a major career comeback for years now. He’s often considered the hardest working actor in Hollywood and it shows. His appearances range anywhere from low-budget horror films to big-budget blockbusters. He’s lent his talents to both live-action appearances and voice roles. As such, having him back as Ghost Rider would be a major treat for comic book fans.
Here’s the tweet shared by insider @MyTimeToShineH that started the rumor:

Of course, this should be taken with a grain of salt. Especially as it’s unknown how exactly Cage could be reprising the role. But there are several Multiverse-related projects in the works. This includes the upcoming films Deadpool 3, Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, and Avengers: Secret Wars. All of these films are expected to feature surprise cameos and shocking returns from past superheroes. Thus Nicolas Cage’s Ghost Rider rather easily fits the bill.
More recently, Cage voiced the Marvel character Spider-Man Noir in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. The film’s sequel also featured a cameo from Cage’s character via archival audio. Interestingly, the character is also set to receive his own television series on Amazon Prime Video. Though it’s unknown if this live-action iteration will have any connection to Cage’s portrayal or the animated films.
Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional Marvel updates. Hopefully we’ll have more details soon regarding the possibility of Nicolas Cage returning to portray the iconic motorcycle-riding bounty hunter of the damned.
