Many internet users have expressed their disapproval for Disney’s upcoming Snow White adaptation starring Rachel Zegler. Of course, with the internet being the way it is, many of these comments have been disregarded. Interestingly, however, the son of original Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs director David Hand is now calling out the film.
His father, also named David Hand, was the director of the original 1937 animated classic. Now the director’s 91-year-old son has opened up about the remake while speaking with The Telegraph. As it turns out, he has some very strong feelings about the upcoming remake and Disney’s overall direction as of late.
Here’s what Hand shared:
“It’s a whole different concept and I just totally disagree with it, and I know my dad and Walt would also very much disagree with it. I disagree with this whole new concept. [Disney is] trying to do something new with something that was such a great success earlier … their thoughts are just so radical now.”
He continues to explain how Disney is “making up new woke things” as they continue to alter their catalogue of classic stories.
“They change the stories, they change the thought process of the characters … they’re making up new woke things and I’m just not into any of that. I find it quite frankly a bit insulting [what] they may have done with some of these classic films … There’s no respect for what Disney did and what my dad did … I think Walt and he would be turning in their graves.”
Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional Snow White updates as we have them. The film has been surrounded by backlash and controversy, especially now that the son of the original film’s director has spoken out against it. Nevertheless, it’s likely that Disney will continue to disregard these complaints, as they have with projects like Percy Jackson, and that Snow White will continue as planned along with their other divisive projects.
