One of Marvel‘s most iconic supervillains is Kingpin. Now, as you can see below, Kingpin has been given a brand-new look by Marvel. And it’s quite a change from anything we’ve seen before.
The fan-favorite villain is set to appear in a sequel to Spider-Man: Reign. Fans of Spider-Man will recognize the title as it was a big hit with fans during its original run. For the sequel, however, Kingpin will be appearing with a rather grotesque new form. This was revealed in a preview featured in Amazing Spider-Man #31 via CBR.
During the original run of Spider-Man: Reign, which ran from December 2006 to March 2007, Kingpin was kept in a comatose state. He was being held as a trophy by Mayor Waters, the main villain of the series, who had a number of classic villains including the Sinister Six and an army of symbiotes under his control.
Here’s the new Kingpin design as shared by Marvel:
This is an exciting moment for fans, then, to see Kingpin rise up just moments after the previous series ended. Though fans had to wait years for this follow-up, it certainly looks like the new story will be worth it, especially considering the growing popularity of Reign. Likewise, it’s a great time to bring back Kingpin, as the character is also more popular than ever on the live-action side of things.
Vincent D’Onofrio’s Kingpin has become a major icon for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. And while he’s more associated with Daredevil in the MCU than Spider-Man, there’s no telling what the future could hold. Especially as both the live-action and comic book iterations continue to feed into one another’s popularity. As for now, we’ll have to enjoy seeing Kingpin and Spider-Man face off yet again in comic book form.
