Fans have been eager to know which characters, if any, might crossover from the current DC film and television franchise and into the DCU. The DCU, otherwise known as the DC Universe, will be James Gunn and Peter Safran’s way of crafting a brand-new timeline of films and shows. Now it looks like Margot Robbie could return as Harley Quinn for the DCU.
Margot Robbie has been a part of DC since her appearance as Harley Quinn in 2016’s Suicide Squad. She was always a celebrated part of the film. In fact, Robbie continued to be celebrated for her additional appearances in the DC film franchise. Obviously it makes sense, then, that James Gunn and Peter Safran would want her to stick around for the new shared universe.
Of course, this also hasn’t been confirmed, so fans should take this with a grain of salt. Here’s where the rumor was shared via insider @MyTimeToShineH on Twitter:

As mentioned, this should be taken with a grain of salt, and it’s unknown when Harley Quinn could appear in the franchise. There are several films lined up, with Superman: Legacy set to kick off the franchise, and The Brave and the Bold will throw Batman into the mix. It would certainly make sense for Harley Quinn to appear in the Batman-related film – though anything is possible. Especially since most of Harley Quinn’s live-action films in the franchise so far have been in films unrelated to the Batman lore.
Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional DC updates as we have them. Hopefully we’ll know soon if Margot Robbie really will return as Harley Quinn for the DCU or not. In the meantime, we’ll just have to wait and see what happens. There are certainly plenty of possibilities for the superhero film franchise in the future.
