Netflix’s Mindhunter became one of the platform’s most beloved shows with only two seasons. Sadly, it’s been years since the show’s second season premiered, and it seems like there’s no third season in sight. Now fans have started a viral petition to get Mindhunter Season 3 off the ground.
As of this writing, nearly 70,000 people have signed the Mindhunter petition at change.org. It’s clear that fans are eager to have the series continue for another season. Especially given the way the second season ended.
Of course, part of the reason why the third season has yet to go into production is that series producer David Fincher has been busy with other projects. The petition notes this and specifically addresses Fincher as they ask him to either come back to the series or have another director take his place.
“So we respectfully ask you to please reconsider your priorities and make the time to film Season 3, soon, and if that isn’t a possibility and/or cannot be arranged, then please consider another director for Season 3. While the quality may not be at Fincher level, there are many mega-talented directors out there,” the petition suggests.
The petition also emphasizes the potential for success that the series has:
“Please don’t let such a brilliant series die because we know, without doubt, this show/series has the potential to be Netflix most successful and popular ever.”
Indeed, there is plenty of potential for Mindhunter. The first season received positive reception from critics and many lists placed it near the top of 2017’s best television shows. The second season received similarly high ratings from viewers and critics. As such, a third season could no doubt be a major success for Netflix and David Fincher if they chose to revive the title.
