Fans are looking forward to Sony’s upcoming movie Madame Web for numerous reasons. One such reason is that Sydney Sweeney is a confirmed part of the cast. Now we know just what character Sydney Sweeney is set to play in Madame Web.
The highly-anticipated Spider-Man spin-off has mostly been shrouded in secrecy. But we’ve known for quite some time that it would revolve around the Multiverse and its titular character. Which, of course, isn’t a surprise given Madame Web’s role in other Spider-Man projects. Especially since she tends to guide other Spider-Persons.
On that note, Variety has now spilled the beans regarding which character Sydney Sweeney is playing in Madame Web. Excitingly enough, she will in fact be playing a Spider-Person. Specifically, Sweeney is playing none other than Julia Carpenter aka Spider-Woman.
Other details regarding her role are being kept under wraps. But Sweeney did share the following:
“I was freaking out, of course,” regarding the discovery that she got the part. “I went straight to the comic store, and I bought every comic that mentioned my character.”
Furthermore, she thinks the film will be quite unique compared to other superhero movies coming out:
“I think it’s different from what people expect a superhero movie to be,” she explains. “Quote that! That’s a quote, because the tabloids will pick up everything else we talk about.”
She also teases other potential appearances for her character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Of course, that likely depends on the success of Madame Web. But if it’s as ambitious as she implies – then it very well could be a gateway to a whole slew of appearances from Julia Carpenter.
The ensemble cast of Madame Web includes Dakota Johnson, Sydney Sweeney, Celeste O’Connor, Isabela Merced, Emma Roberts, Adam Scott, and Tahar Rahim.
Fans will be able to see Madame Web when it hits theaters on February 16, 2024. Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates on the film as we have them.
