Fans have been eagerly looking forward to Deadpool 3. Especially since the movie would not only reunite Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, but bring their X-Men characters into the MCU. Unfortunately, it looks like Disney has reportedly removed Deadpool 3 from their release schedule.
A release schedule for Disney’s upcoming slate of theatrical releases was published by ComicBook.com. However, as revealed by the calendar, the highly-anticipated Marvel flick is not pictured on the list. The film was initially slated to be released in May of 2024.
Now there’s no such release date given. It seems likely that the ongoing WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes have something to do with its absence. The film had barely started production before SAG-AFTRA joined the WGA in solidarity. And, without knowing when the strike could end, it seems like Disney has delayed the film’s production indefinitely. This means there’s no way the film could meet its previously-projected release date.
It’s a sad state of affairs for fans of the comic book character. Of course, if it means that writers and actors will be getting paid their fair share, then it’s a necessary course of action. Hopefully production will be able to resume soon and we’ll have a clearer idea as to when to expect the film. It’s also worth noting that Disney hasn’t yet officially announced a delay – so we’ll have to see what they have to say as well.
Shawn Levy is directing Deadpool 3 from a screenplay written by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick. Wendy Molyneux and Lizzie Molyneux previously worked on the film’s screenplay.
The upcoming film stars Ryan Reynolds, Hugh Jackman, Brianna Hildebrand, and Shioli Kutsuna, in addition to returning cast members Karan Soni, Leslie Uggams, Morena Baccarin, Stefan Kapicic and Rob Delaney. Newcomers include Emma Corrin and Matthew Macfadyen.
Deadpool 3 was previously scheduled to hit theaters for a May 3, 2024 release date. Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates regarding the highly-anticipated blockbuster as we have them.
