A number of Netflix shows have been cancelled before they were intended to conclude. As such, the news that one beloved Netflix series is coming to a planned end is both upsetting and reassuring.
In recent years, Netflix has cancelled numerous fan-favorite shows. Many of the metrics regarding these cancellations are still unknown. This has left subscribers worried about which of their favorite shows could be cancelled next. Fortunately, for fans of the Netflix series Disenchantment, it will come to a natural conclusion.
The animated fantasy series comes from Matt Groening, creator of The Simpsons and Futurama, and it’s been a major success for the streaming platform. Of course, both of Groening’s other two series have gone on for years, with The Simpsons ongoing for decades and the recent revival of Futurama. For Disenchantment, however, it looks like the end of the Netflix series is coming after a mere five seasons.
Netflix confirmed as much while releasing the trailer for Disenchantment Season 5. As you can see below, they noted the season would be the show’s last on Twitter with the show’s official account:
“HEAR YE! HEAR YE! THE FINAL SEASON OF DISENCHANTMENT IS AMONG US!”
The caption continues:
“Season 5 premieres on September 1st, only on Netflix,” it reads. “Please enjoy our Final Teaser as we rally momentum for Bean’s shocking conclusion! More to come soon…”

Here are some of the mixed reactions to the announcement:
Genuinely thought this show had just been quietly cancelled, very happy that Netflix made a good decision for once and let it tell its full story https://t.co/xbNnCWTTLN

The series was initially released by Netflix in 2018. In the years since, it’s built up a solid reputation, being favorably compared to Groening’s other shows. As such, it’s shocking to see it come to an end, but at least it will be a planned conclusion.
Disenchantment Season 5 will be available to stream via Netflix on September 1, 2023. Fans can stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates as we have them.
