It was recently revealed that Fabian Marta, an investor for the newly-released movie Sound of Freedom, was charged and arrested for child kidnapping. The arrest was notable as Sound of Freedom involves a plot regarding the trafficking of children.
Specifically, Marta invested in the film’s crowdfunding campaign. As such, he was one of thousands of investors, and had his name in the film’s credits as a result. Now Angel Studios, a producer behind the film, has opened up about the man’s arrest via IndieWire.
Angel Studios CEO Neal Harmon shared the following:
“Angel Studios adhered to the requirements of federal and state laws and regulations in allowing 6,678 people to invest an average of $501 each into the launch of ‘Sound of Freedom.’ Just as anyone can invest in the stock market, everyone who meets the legal criteria can invest in Angel Studios projects. One of the perks of investing was the ability to be listed in the credits,” Harmon begins.
And, without referencing the specific arrest, Harmon adds that he hopes all perpetrators “will be brought to justice no matter who they are” and that Sound of Freedom will raise awareness for this cause:
“We’re grateful to brave law enforcement officials who have already arrested dozens of traffickers in the weeks following ‘Sound of Freedom’s’ release. Our film speaks to this globally-pervasive problem, and it is our hope that perpetrators everywhere will be brought to justice no matter who they are, and that even more people will see the film to raise awareness.”
Of course, this is only the latest example of controversy since the film’s release. There were previous reports that movie theater chains were sabotaging screenings of the film. Additionally, there was controversy before the film’s release, when Disney shelved the project altogether. It was that decision which led to a crowdfunding campaign to have the film released at all.
