The newly-released movieĀ Sound of Freedom has a narrative that revolves around child trafficking. Now, following the successful release of the film, a Sound of Freedom investor has been arrested and charged with child kidnapping.
As shared via Newsweek, Fabian Marta is one of the film’s many crowdfunding investors. The crowdfunding campaign famously helped the film’s producers re-acquire the movie from Disney so that they could release it themselves. Additionally, Marta, whose name is in the film’s credits as one of the “investors [who] helped bring Sound of Freedom to theaters,” reportedly used Facebook to hype up their part in the crowdfunding.
This has led to numerous screenshots of posts that appear to be from Marta to surface online. Though the original posts have been deleted, the screenshots are still going viral, and one such example includes the following:
“The Sound of Freedom movie tackles a very tough subject, and took extraordinary effort to bring it to movie theaters,” it begins. “I’m proud to have been a small part of it. If you see the movie look for ‘Fabian Marta and Family’ at the very end of the credits.”
The credit is presented as “Fabian Marta & Family” in the film. Newsweek adds that his “next court date is listed in records as August 28.” Though they note that the “records do not yet list his legal counsel in the case.” Furthermore, “his bail was set at $15,000 but he was released on personal recognizance following an initial appearance on July 24.” It also remains unclear regarding “the nature of the incident the criminal case relates to.”
Furthermore, if Marta is found guilty, he could face ten years to life in prison. Child kidnapping is considered a class A felony. The Sound of Freedom investor was charged for child kidnapping on July 21 and further arrested on July 23. Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates on the situation as we have them.
