Filmmaker Christopher Nolan is at it again with another successful blockbuster. His new film Oppenheimer is being considered a success by both moviegoers and critics. However, some Oppenheimer viewers have discovered a major mistake.
Of course, most movies tend to have mistakes. And the possibility for one only increases when making a film set in a historical time period. As such, history buffs figured out one incorrect detail that the film production must have missed.
The mistake was reported via CNN where they noted “eagle-eyed fans have spotted a mistake in a scene set in 1945,” further explaining that the scene follows the titular character as he “stands among a crowd waving American flags – bearing the wrong number of stars.”
The error was further discussed by users on Twitter. They explain that the flags featured in the scene have 50 stars on them. At the point in which the scene takes place, 1945, there should have only been 48 stars on the flag. This is because Alaska and Hawaii hadn’t yet become part of the United States. Interestingly, however, the 48 star flag did appear in another scene.
“It was good and all,” one user writes about the Oppenheimer mistake, “but I’ll be that guy and complain they used 50-star flags in a scene set in 1945.”

Of course, there are still other viewers that failed to see the error. And, considering so did the production team, it stands to reason that this doesn’t negatively impact the film. Especially since the film has been successful otherwise.
Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer is currently playing in theaters. Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates on Oppenheimer and other new films as we have them. For now, the film seems to be doing quite well with audiences and at the box office, mistakes or not.
