The internet’s category of horror stories, known as Creepypastas, have spawned some particularly chilling tales over the years. This includes the Creepypasta story “Russian Sleep Experiment” which has been adapted as the upcoming live-action film, Soviet Sleep Experiment.
The project was announced several years ago in 2018. As shared via Screen Daily, however, “Los Angeles based production and distribution company Buffalo 8 has acquired worldwide rights” to Soviet Sleep Experiment. Additionally, they’ve revealed a brand-new image for the film, which you can see down below.
They also shared the film’s synopsis which will stay true to the events of the original story:
“Russian researchers who keep four patients awake using an experimental stimulant. When the experiment spirals out of control the subjects take matters into their own hands.”
An additional statement was shared via Nikki Stier Justice of Buffalo 8:
“We are so excited to be releasing this unsettling and provocative adaptation of the urban legend that took the internet by storm.”

The cast for the film includes Eva De Dominici, Rafal Zawierucha, Chris Kattan, Evgeny Krutov, Michael Villar, Charles Hubbell and Paul Cram.
Barry Andersson directed the film. Jack Katzenberger, Sara Leeper, Crist Ballas and Jamey Guy produced with Andersson.
Andersson is also said to have described the film as “very timely as it deals with the consequences of not knowing the truth and what sort of terror can come from average humans when they don’t know who they can believe.”
Fans can stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates regarding Soviet Sleep Experiment and other horror projects as we have them. There are plenty of exciting projects on the way, but it’s exciting to see that such a beloved (and terrifying) Creepypasta story will get the live-action film treatment. Hopefully we’ll have more updates soon and that the film lives up to the story’s potential.
