It’s clear that streaming services will cancel anything that doesn’t do well even with only one season released. Now Hulu has proven this yet again by cancelling one fan-favorite series that only had a single season on the platform.
The fan-favorite series, titled Up Here, was a musical comedy which starred Mae Whitman and Carlos Valdes. Additionally, the series featured Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez of Frozen fame as writers for original pieces in the series with Steven Levenson and Danielle Sanchez-Witzel as the show’s screenwriters.
The synopsis for the series, as shared via Deadline, is described as follows:
“Up Here is set in New York City in the waning days of 1999. It follows the extraordinary story of one ordinary couple, as they fall in love – and discover that the single greatest obstacle to finding happiness together might just be themselves – and the treacherous world of memories, obsessions, fears, and fantasies that lives inside their heads.”
Though plenty of viewers enjoyed the series, it looks like the ratings or reviews were not enough to keep it from getting axed. Streaming services have become quite selective with which shows get to continue on, and for this particular musical comedy, it looks like Hulu was no longer having it. Of course, at this rate, viewers probably aren’t surprised to see another series conclude so soon. Especially with only one season under its belt.
In addition to Mae Whitman and Carlos Valdes, the cast of the series includes Sophia Hammons, Emilia Suárez, Andréa Burns, John Hodgman, and Scott Porter.
Fans can still stream the only season of Up Here via Hulu. Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates regarding the streaming service as we have them. It’s unknown if the show will be shopped to other streaming services or networks, so we’ll have to see what happens going forward.
