Kevin Spacey was facing nine charges at a UK trial, including sexual assault, for alleged acts that took place between 2001 and 2013. The acts were said to be made against four different men. Now, as of July 26, 2023, Kevin Spacey has been found not guilty at the trial.
As noted via Deadline, the jury took 12 hours and 26 minutes to acquit “Spacey of seven counts of sexual assault, one count of causing a person to engage in sexual activity without consent, and one count of causing a person to engage in penetrative sexual activity without consent.” Afterwards, Spacey is said to have looked at the jury when he mouthed the words “thank you” twice.
Throughout the trial, the actor maintained his claims that he was innocent and not guilty. This was emphasized in a statement he made outside the court:
“I imagine that many of you can understand that there’s a lot for me to process after what has just happened today,” Spacey began. “But I would like to say that I’m enormously grateful to the jury for having taken the time to examine all of the evidence and all of the facts, carefully, before they reached their decision. And I am humbled by the outcome today.”
As a result of the verdicts, the UK’s Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) stated that the prosecutors “respect” the court’s decision. This isn’t the only trial that Spacey has won in recent years. Additionally, in 2022, Spacey won a $40 million civil case in New York against actor Anthony Rapp. According to Rapp’s allegations, Spacey sexually abused him at a party when he was 14 and Spacey was 26. Though the jury decided that Rapp did not prove his allegations against Spacey.
