The fifth phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is currently underway. As such, different pieces of the MCU are once again coming together, and now the Disney Plus series Secret Invasion just marked the surprise return of a fan-favorite Black Widow actor.
Black Widow was released to theaters in 2019 and gave Scarlett Johansson’s titular character her very own solo film. Of course, the flick also introduced various new characters to the shared cinematic universe. Now one of these characters, played by actor O.T. Fagbenle, has just appeared in the Disney Plus series Secret Invasion.
O.T. Fagbenle previously teased the return of his character, Rick Mason, in a future Marvel project. Now we know that return occurs during the events of Secret Invasion. His character featured in the show’s fifth episode, where Rick Mason assists Nick Fury in getting through the Finnish border. This includes giving Fury a new passport in addition to a digital mask that helps Fury make his way through airport security.
Of course, his appears comes mostly in the form of a small cameo. But it’s nice to see the Black Widow actor make a comeback. It also easily opens the door for his character to make an appearance in other projects, such as The Marvels or Captain America: Brave New World.
The ensemble cast of Secret Invasion includes Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury. Ben Mendelsohn plays the Skrull character Talos. Cobie Smulders reprises their role as Maria Hill. Martin Freeman portrays Everett K. Ross while Don Cheadle plays James “Rhodey” Rhodes aka War Machine. The cast for the show also includes Kingsley Ben-Adir, Olivia Colman, Emilia Clarke, Killian Scott, Christopher McDonald, and Carmen Ejogo.
The new MCU series Secret Invasion is currently available to stream via Disney Plus. Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional Marvel and Secret Invasion updates as we have them.
