SpongeBob SquarePants is a beloved animated series. But that didn’t stop one particular SpongeBob SquarePants episode from being banned on Paramount Plus. Now, however, the episode is making a comeback.
The episode is known as “Mid-Life Crustacean” and first aired as far back as 2003. In 2018, however, the episode was taken off rotation on television and further banned from Paramount Plus in 2021. Now subscribers have found a way to stream the banned SpongeBob SquarePants episode yet again.
For those unfamiliar, the episode revolves around SpongeBob and Patrick attempting to help Mr. Krabs with his mid-life crisis. This ultimately involves a “panty raid” near the end of the episode, of course, with a rather hilarious twist at the end. Though it was considered to be inappropriate for children and thus banned from the streaming platform.
Now, as noted below, the series can now be streamed on Paramount Plus through Amazon Prime Video:

Interestingly, this isn’t the only episode that was banned from the streaming service. In fact, the banned episode “Kwarantined Crab,” is still unavailable to stream. This particular episode was removed in 2021. And, as one can imagine by the title, it was due to the subject matter which was deemed insensitive at the time of our real-world pandemic.
Ultimately, there have been many conversations about whether or not these pieces should be removed completely or merely tagged with warnings. Many streaming services have adopted the practice of placing warnings in front of shows or films that are considered insensitive or inappropriate by today’s standards. Many SpongeBob fans feel that something similar would be a better alternative than simply removing the episodes altogether.
As such, we’ll just have to see what happens going forward. For now, though, this is an interesting way for fans to stream “Mid-Life Crustacean.”
