Fans have been eagerly showing their desire for an Alita: Battle Angel sequel. Now James Cameron confirms that not just one, but at least two sequels to Alita: Battle Angel are in development. It’s certainly a surprise, especially given just how busy Cameron has been with his Avatar sequels.
The Avatar director spoke with Forbes when he spilled the beans regarding Alita. Cameron was explaining the reasoning for selling one of his properties. As it just so happens, he notes that he’ll be working on the new films in Austin.
As shared below:
“And on Avatar, I’m working in Wellington and Los Angeles. And on the new Alita: Battle Angel films, I’ll be working in Austin, so it just didn’t make sense for us (to live there) anymore.”
It’s worth noting that the first Alita: Battle Angel film was directed by filmmaker Robert Rodriguez. He chose to direct the film after James Cameron became too busy with the Avatar sequels to do it himself. Thus it’s interesting that Cameron mentions Austin, as that’s where Rodriguez currently resides. It seems likely, then, that the two are once again collaborating for whatever new Alita films are on the way.
The 2019 live-action film Alita: Battle Angel is an adaptation of Yukito Kishiro’s Japanese manga Gunnm. This translates to Battle Angel Alita in English. The film was a hit with fans, albeit with only a lukewarm box office intake, and so it seemed unclear if a sequel would ever get underway. But this seems to certainly put things into a positive light. Especially if James Cameron is choosing to work in Austin for the new films.
Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional Alita: Battle Angel updates, including the alleged upcoming sequels, as we have them. For now, fans will no doubt be rejoicing to know that the Alita storyline is far from over.
