The Godzilla film franchise is roaring back to life in so many exciting ways. In addition to a live-action Godzilla series on Apple TV Plus, and the new film Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, Toho has a new Japanese Godzilla film in the works. Now, as you can see below, the first official trailer for Toho’s Godzilla movie, Godzilla Minus One, has been released.
Toho’s most recent live-action Godzilla film was 2016’s Shin Godzilla. This, of course, followed 2004’s Godzilla: Final Wars. Every other live-action Godzilla project since then has been through Legendary Entertainment. Now, however, it looks like Toho is finally kicking things into high gear with this latest outing.
Here’s the new official trailer for Toho’s Godzilla Minus One:
Hopefully we’ll have more details released soon. As for now, however, this is an exciting surprise for fans of the beloved giant monster. And, as mentioned, there are plenty of other Godzilla projects on the way. The live-action Godzilla series and Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire both tie into Legendary’s MonsterVerse which also includes 2014’s Godzilla, 2017’s Kong: Skull Island, 2019’s Godzilla: King of the Monsters, and 2021’s surprise hit, Godzilla vs. Kong. The American cinematic universe also expanded into animation with the release of Netflix’s anime series Skull Island.
As such, there are plenty of new films and shows to be excited for. But it’s the return of Toho that really has fans excited. Especially when you consider they’re the creators of the original Godzilla film and its many iconic follow-ups.
Takashi Yamazaki both wrote and directed the new film for Toho.
Godzilla Minus One is expected to be released on November 1, 2023 in Japan and in the US on December 1st. Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional Godzilla updates as we have them. It’s definitely nice seeing so many new Godzilla projects all simultaneously in the works.
