The fourth movie in the original Ghostbusters continuity has officially wrapped filming. Star Ernie Hudson recently shared as much regarding Ghostbusters 4. Unfortunately, Hudson also hinted at the possibility of some bad news for Ghostbusters fans.
Ghostbusters 4 was initially scheduled to be released later this year on December 20, 2023. Though with the release date being mere months away, and production only now having wrapped, it seems like a release date delay is imminent. Now Hudson has confirmed as much while speaking with ScreenRant.
Here’s what Ernie Hudson shared about Ghostbusters 4:
“Yeah, we finished, the movie is done, it’s wrapped. Obviously, they’re editing and doing whatever else. I’ve heard rumors the end of the year they’ll push for, or maybe spring next year. I never know how the studios are gonna do whatever they do, but the filming is done, which was a little bit difficult with the writers strike and everything going on. So, I know there was a lot of shuffling around in terms of where it was being done, but I’m thankful that we at least got it done in the can, and now, I’m like everybody else, waiting to see what it all looks like.”
It’s certainly nice to know that the film has wrapped. With the ongoing strikes being an issue, it’s nice that it didn’t stop production altogether. But there is very little time for the necessary post-production work to be done by December 20. As such, a delay is very likely going to happen. We’ll just have to see what Sony has in mind for the film.
Gil Kenan directed the film this time around, while Ghostbusters: Afterlife director Jason Reitman acted as producer.
The cast includes Patton Oswalt, Kumail Nanjiani, James Acaster, and Emily Alyn Lind. Ernie Hudson, Mckenna Grace, Paul Rudd, and Carrie Coon also star.
