The first live-action Spawn film hit theaters in 1997. Now, decades later, it looks like 2025 could finally be the year we get a new Spawn movie.
Blumhouse’s Jason Blum shared as much while speaking with ComicBook. The successful horror film producer is expected to produce the film along with creator Todd McFarlane. Furthermore, Jamie Foxx is attached to portray the titular character, having signed on several years ago.
Here’s what Blum had to share about the Spawn film and its potential 2025 release date:
“I would say you have a lot to hope for because it’s in very very active development,” Blum began. “What needs to happen is that my fellow friends the writers and the studios need to figure out their differences and get back to writing, but we’ve got a great group of folks putting it together, and my hope is that that movie — my prediction is maybe we’ll actually see a Spawn movie in ’25. No promises, but that’s my prediction.”
The most recent update for the project is that Joker writer Scott Silver will be teaming up with Captain America: New World Order writer Malcolm Spellman and newcomer Matt Mixon to pen the film’s screenplay. Of course, as Blum mentions, the ongoing writers strike likely slowed down that part of the production. Hopefully when that clears up, then, Spawn can finally move onto the next stages of preproduction at some point next year.
The 1997 Spawn film starred Michael Jai White as the titular character. Though it didn’t do as well as expected, it’s become a cult classic, and paved the way for a fan-favorite animated series. Hopefully the new film will finally find mainstream success for the franchise.
Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates regarding the project as we have them. For now, it looks like any Spawn fans will want to keep their eyes on 2025.
