Fans have been eager to know which actor would take on the Superman mantle for Superman: Legacy following the exit of Henry Cavill. Now it’s been revealed that David Corenswet has been cast as Clark Kent in Superman: Legacy, while Rachel Brosnahan will play Lois Lane in the upcoming DC movie.
As noted via Deadline, this decision was made after “months of audition tapes and in-person screen tests.” Both Corenswet and Brosnahan eventually became part of the final few selected to test for both DC Studios co-chairs James Gunn and Peter Safran. This included performing “in full costume and makeup for the parts.”
Accurate! (They are not only both incredible actors, but also wonderful people). https://t.co/1FtwYIDeYj

They further explain that the situation precedes a potential strike from SAG-AFTRA which could have impacted the casting process:
“The tests took place over two days with the men; one of the days saw the three actors in full Superman attire. Sources close to the situation said that each actor had closed test deals that would expire after two business weeks, so clearly all parties wanted this sorted out before a potential SAG-AFTRA strike, which could go into effect at midnight June 30.”
With that said, the casting process is far from over, with the search ongoing for the DCU’s Lex Luthor and other supporting characters. Of course, with Superman being one of the biggest characters of the upcoming DCU, it’s no doubt important that they found the right actor for the job. Hopefully David Corenswet will be able to win over DC fans with Superman: Legacy. Especially those that are disappointed Henry Cavill will no longer play the character.
James Gunn will direct Superman: Legacy from a screenplay he wrote. Peter Safran will produce the film. The original Superman character was created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster.
Fans can expect to see Superman: Legacy hit theaters on July 11, 2025. Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates as we have them. The news is no doubt just getting started.
