It’s been long suspected that a second season of the Scooby-Doo spin-off series Velma was in development. Now Warner Bros. Discovery has confirmed that Velma Season 2 is officially in the works.
The first season of the series, despite negative reviews, earned high ratings on the HBO Max streaming service. Now titled Max, it looks like Warner Bros Discovery hopes to see the same kind of success for a second season of the show. As shared in an official press release, Velma Season 2 is part of their upcoming animation slate.
Charles Grandy developed Velma alongside star and executive producer Mindy Kaling. Kaling starred as the titular character, and though she received a large portion of the backlash, many other elements of the series were criticized too. It’s possible, however, that a second season could address these issues and introduce a more satisfying season. We’ll just have to see what happens on that front.
With that said, there aren’t any plot details for the show’s second season available at this time. But the first season certainly ended in an interesting place. The series took its own subversive route to introduce the iconic Scooby-Doo gang and loosely transform them into the versions we know from the original franchise. The second season will no doubt take us even further into that territory, so with that in mind, we’ll have to see what’s in store.
Hopefully bringing in some more of the franchise’s classic elements will satisfy viewers. Otherwise, it’s possible that the second season could be met with the same negative reviews, and without the boosted ratings from “hate watching.” Then again, stranger things have happened.
Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates regarding Velma and other Warner Bros. Discovery projects as we have them. Whether you loved it or hated it – it looks like we’re still getting more of the edgy Scooby-Doo spin-off.
