Garth Brooks has a new bar called the Friends in Low Places Bar & Honky Tonk. Furthermore, he’s announced that the location will serve “every brand of beer.” Of course, this includes Bud Light, and now controversy has sparked as a result.
This controversy, which seems to have led to the formation of a boycott, was noted by Insider. Bud Light has already been facing controversy after the brand collaborated with transgender influencer Dylan Mulvaney. Though another layer seems to have been added now that Brooks will serve the alcoholic beverage at his bar.
Here’s how he described the Friends in Low Places Bar & Honky Tonk:
“I want it to be a place you feel safe in, I want it to be a place where you feel like there are manners and people like one another,” he said. “And yes, we’re going to serve every brand of beer. We just are. It’s not our decision to make. Our thing is this: if you [are let] into this house, love one another. If you’re an asshole, there are plenty of other places on lower Broadway.”
The “lower Broadway” area Brooks refers to features several bars that have chosen to no longer serve Bud Light. As such, Brooks is only one of few locations in the area willing to openly serve Bud Light. This has the conservative portion of his fanbase quite upset.
Here are some tweets shared by social media users to oppose Brooks’ decision:
@Garthbrooks just called anyone who boycotts @budlight “assholes”. Really?!?! So you insult those who are against a 26 year old man who pretends to be a teenage girl.🤨 #BoycottGarthBrooks Let’s see how well your bar does once it opens. @johnrich @KidRockhttps://t.co/i8o6V2jqI2

Looks like he wasn’t kidding that he has friends in low places … I’m going to have to cut my own album soon, running out of artists to listen to and it won’t be pretty. #BoycottGarthBrooks pic.twitter.com/OlSX1d1wzZ

Did @GarthBrooks just call us a bunch of ass-holes?! Well he can just dry up too! #BoycottGarthBrooks

Was a huge fan, no longer. It takes courage these days to publicly stand for conservative family values. It isn’t about beer, it’s about targeting children. Your support of Bud Light and this woke ideology, means I’ll support @johnrich and #RedneckRivieraBar. #BoycottGarthBrooks

Just like Bud Light. Country music stars didn’t think about their audiences. #BoycottGarthBrooks

Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates on this situation as we have them. Of course, this is far from the first time that Garth Brooks has upset conservative members of his audience, and it’s unlikely that he’ll change his stance on the matter. As for Bud Light, they’ve recently replaced Alissa Heinerscheid, the vice president of marketing who was involved with the Dylan Mulvaney collaboration.
