Fans have been anxious to see what filmmaker Fede Alvarez has in store with his upcoming Alien film. Now Disney has finally announced a release date for the stand-alone Alien movie set in the iconic sci-fi horror universe. Furthermore, they’ve announced that the film will be hitting theaters.
It’s quite exciting that the new Alien film will be granted a theatrical release. The film was previously expected to be released via Hulu, much like the recent Predator project titled Prey. However, it’s now been confirmed that the film will be hitting theaters in August of next year.
The official release date for the yet-to-be-titled Alien film will be August 16, 2024. Though the title and other such details have yet to be revealed, this means that we can expect news about the project to be released sooner rather than later. It’s certainly going to be an exciting time for fans of the franchise. Especially to see how this stand-alone story delivers.
The upcoming film, which involves “a group of young people” to tell its story, has so far been given the following synopsis:
“On a distant colony, the group finds themselves in a fight for their lives with the titular alien, a creature known as a Xenomorph, whose race propagates by implanting eggs into people’s stomachs via face-huggers, with the juveniles eventually violently bursting out of the host’s chest.”
Fede Alvarez is directing the film from a screenplay he wrote with frequent collaborator Rodo Sayagues.
The ensemble cast of the film includes Cailee Spaeny, David Jonsson, Archie Renaux, Spike Fearn, Aileen Wu, and Isabela Merced.
