In 2022, the Sanderson Sisters from Hocus Pocus finally returned after a decades-long hiatus. Now it looks like they could be returning much sooner for another outing with Hocus Pocus 3.
As revealed by The New York Times, Walt Disney Pictures president Sean Bailey has confirmed that Hocus Pocus 3 is on the table. This will no doubt delight fans of the original film and its more recent follow-up.
Of course, there aren’t any plot details to go by at this time. Especially as Hocus Pocus 2 featured a rather definitive ending. Of course, so did the first film, and yet look where we are all these years later. It’s also worth noting that Hocus Pocus 2 had a subtle post-credits scene which teased that the Sanderson Sisters could once again return.
Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy all reprised their roles as the trio of witches for Hocus Pocus 2. They’ve similarly all shared their desire to return for a further entry. Likewise, so have the original film’s stars Omri Katz, Vinessa Shaw, and Thora Birch, who were all absent for the first sequel. So there are plenty of different routes that an additional film could take.
The latest sequel was directed by Anne Fletcher while Jen D’Angelo wrote the screenplay. It’s unknown if they’ll return for the third film. Though D’Angelo has similarly expressed her desire to have Omri Katz and Vinessa Shaw reprise their roles as Max and Allison, respectively.
Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates on Hocus Pocus 3 as we have them. Hopefully we’ll have more details soon. It’s taken a long time for the first Hocus Pocus follow-up to get off the ground. But now it’s clear that we’re entering franchise territory at this point. Especially now that the second film proved to be a massive success for Disney Plus.
