The John Wick movie franchise has proven to be a very successful brand. Now with four feature films, an upcoming miniseries, and an additional spin-off film, it’s clear that it will be here to stay. As such, it’s exciting to know that John Wick 5 is now revealed to be in early development.
Motion Picture Group chairman Joe Drake revealed as much, via Collider, during Lionsgate’s Q4 2023 earnings call. Furthermore, not only can we expect John Wick 5, but various other projects set in the same universe as well.
Here’s what he shared:
“We’re now moving across that franchise, not just in the AAA video game space, but looking at what the regular cadence of spin-offs, television really growing that universe so that there is a steady cadence of a franchise that there’s clear appetite by the audience. What is official is that, as you know, Ballerina is the first spinoff that comes out next year. We’re in development on three others, including John Wick 5 and including television series. The Continental will be airing soon. And so, we’re building out the world and when that five movie comes, will be organic — will be organically grown out of how we’re starting to tell those stories. But you can rely on a regular cadence of John Wick.”
The next project set in the universe, The Continental, is set to premiere on Peacock on September 22, 2023. The film Ballerina will follow on June 7, 2024. Fortunately, in between these films, we’ll still be getting regular appearances from Keanu Reeves as the beloved character. Hopefully we’ll have more details on these various projects soon.
