It isn’t surprising to see new adaptations of classic fairy tales. Recently, however, more and more classic stories have been reimagined into brutal horror movies. Now Cinderella is getting the treatment next with the upcoming film Cinderella’s Curse.
Fans of Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey and other such interpretations will no doubt be excited. As shared via Bloody-Disgusting, producer and director Louisa Warren has an interesting take in store. As they’ve stated themselves:
“This is an incredibly unique spin on the Cinderella we all love and know,” Warren teases. “There are going to be some truly horrific deaths by her hands.”
Warren continues:
“I think the gore hounds are in for a treat in my dark retelling.”
Fans won’t have too long to wait to see the film. It’s scheduled to be released as soon as October 2023 by ITN Studios. In addition to being produced and directed by Warren, the film is written by Harry Boxley. The cast for the film includes Kelly Rian Sanson, Chrissie Wunna, and Danielle Scott.
Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates on Cinderella’s Curse as we have them. Especially with production on the film set to begin in the UK as soon as next month. For now, it sounds like a very interesting take on the classic story. With so many new horror-centric takes on classic fairy tales these days, it’ll be interesting to see how this Cinderella adaptation will stand out. But if it’s as gory as Warren teases – then that certainly paints a very bloody picture.
As mentioned, there are several similar films in the works. Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey 2 is entering production soon, in addition to horror versions of Peter Pan and Bambi. It’s clear that this is a trope that’s here to stay and we’ll be seeing plenty of new iterations in the future.
