Moviegoers were no doubt stunned by the trailer for Meg 2: The Trench. The upcoming blockbuster sequel takes the concept behind 2018’s The Meg and pushes it over the top. With three Megalodon sharks and several other creatures, things are sure going to get crazy. Though it’s been confirmed that Meg 2: The Trench will be officially rated PG-13.
The rating does fit with the rating of its predecessor. This time, however, with all of these other creatures running loose – it should give the film plenty of different ways to maintain the action. All it takes is a little creativity. And, judging by the trailer for Meg 2: The Trench, there’s certainly plenty of that.
Here’s the description behind the new PG-13 rating given to Meg 2: The Trench:
“Action/violence, some bloody images, language and brief suggestive material.”
Hopefully the crazier tone of this film will help satisfy fans that aren’t as excited by the PG-13 rating. But let’s remember that even the original Jaws was rated PG in 1975 – so there are still ways to have fun with the concept and present enough blood and mayhem to keep audiences thrilled. With dinosaurs, tentacled beasts, and again – three – Megalodons this time around – Meg 2: The Trench should be a great time at the theater.
The new sequel is directed by Ben Wheatley from a screenplay penned by Jon Hoeber & Erich Hoeber and Dean Georgaris. The story was written by Dean Georgaris and Joen Hoeber & Erich Hober, based on the novel The Trench by Steve Alten.
The cast of Meg 2: The Trench, in addition to Jason Statham, also includes Wu Jing, Sophia Cai, Page Kennedy, Sergio Peris-Mencheta, Skyler Samuels, and Cliff Curtis.
Meg 2: The Trench will be swimming its way into theaters on August 4, 2023. Fans can stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional news on Meg 2: The Trench and other horror film updates as we have them.
