Netflix once again has subscribers in a frenzy. This time over yet another series they’ve cancelled after just one season. Now these upset fans have gathered together in an attempt to save the Netflix series with a petition.
The fan-favorite series, titled Lockwood & Co., is based on the book series by Jonathan Stroud. And, as you can see below, the Change.org petition titled “Save Lockwood & Co” already has over 8,000 signatures as of this writing. It’s an impressive number and one that will likely only continue to grow.
Sadly, as noted via Variety, it looks like the show’s “viewing numbers didn’t meet the threshold to greenlight a second season.” Hence the cancellation. Of course, Netflix has cancelled more than a few fan-favorite projects by this time, and it’s clearly left a large portion of their subscribers quite upset.
Netflix subscribers indicated as much with some of the comments for the petition:
“This is one of the best show adaptations I’ve ever seen. I am gutted. I will never forgive Netflix for making this god awful decision…”
“Just an awesome show. Had everything. Ghostbusters/Goonies/Conjuring/Harry Potter all in one show. This is a mistake.”
“I love this show. It’s a show anyone can watch and it’s got a wonderful story line. It was #1 for a while so I really don’t understand why Netflix wouldn’t automatically renew it. Time to change their minds!!! Give us our show back!!!”
It’s certainly surprising to see the cancellation. Regardless of the “viewing numbers,” the series had plenty of stellar reviews going for it. But in the current age of streaming, it looks like many of these streaming services are becoming rather picky with their provided content. But since subscribers are the ones that pay for it – it seems fair that they should have a say in what gets renewed and what doesn’t as well.
Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional Netflix news as we have it. The one and only season of Lockwood & Co. can currently be streamed via Netflix.
