Netflix has unveiled numerous original movie and shows on its streaming platform over the years. Now one such Netflix original, a Spanish-language endeavor from 2020, is getting a brand-new sequel.
The film is known for having shocked viewers with its unique concept and grotesque visuals. As such, fans are excited to know that the story will be getting continued in a follow-up. This particular movie is none other than The Platform.
The Platform takes place in a world where prisoners are locked up in a vertical complex. An elevator in the complex gradually moves food down to each level of the building. Unfortunately, most of the rations go to the first few floors, leaving little to nothing available for the lower levels.
It’s an interesting premise and one that’s resonated with many viewers. After all, it’s a clear analogy regarding high, middle, and lower societal classes. Now Netflix has announced the official sequel with several images via Twitter as you can see below:
“The story is far from over,” Netflix writes. “Here’s your first look at our sequel to The Platform, the most popular Spanish film in Netflix history, once again directed by Galder Gaztelu-Urrutia.”

It’s unclear what exactly the storyline for this continuation will be. But it’s clear that it takes place in a similar, if not the same, location as the original. It also looks like a new cast will be involved. But with the same director attached – it’ll be great to see what his vision turns into this time around. Especially considering just how much of an impact the original film has had on viewers.
Stay tuned to ScreenGeek regarding additional Netflix updates and more news on the sequel to The Platform as we have it. For now, it’s exciting to see that production on the film is already underway and that we’ll be seeing it sooner rather than later.
