Marvel Fan Blasted For Tattoo Over Holocaust Similarities

Many Marvel fans are showing their support for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 now that it is finally in theaters. One fan, however, is receiving backlash for a tattoo he got inspired by the MCU movie.

As you can see below, TikTok user @soyalyssalopez chose to share the tattoo on social media. The tattoo is obviously inspired by the number given to Rocket Raccoon and his rather dark origin story. Of course, the tattoo also features some similarities with the real-world tattoos given to Holocaust victims.

It seems that this particular detail went over this fan’s head. Now he’s facing backlash online for his Guardians of the Galaxy tattoo. Here’s the original video:

Given the backlash, however, the TikTok user has removed comments on the video. But that’s not stopping other social media users from sharing their responses. As you can see below, fellow TikTok user @newyorkcardo had the following to say:

“Let’s not tattoo numbers on our hands based on the cartoon raccoon,” he begins. “Six million people my guy.”

It’s clear that @newyorkcardo is referring to the amount of estimated victims from the Holocaust. Many other users have made similar comments. And, in addition to pointing out the similarities with Holocaust victims, others are shocked why he’d get the tattoo even within the context of the film. After all, the numbered tattoo was essentially Rocket’s slave name, and one that he chose to forget by choosing his own unique name. It’s certainly an interesting way to want to remember the character, to say the least.

@soyalyssalopez has yet to respond to the backlash. As mentioned, though, she did turn off comments on the video. So perhaps we’ll have an update in the near future.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is currently playing in theaters. Fans can stay tuned to ScreenGeek for additional Marvel news as we have it.
