Elon Musk shocked the internet when he purchased Twitter and made it his own social media platform. Now he’s shocked the internet once again after naming the new CEO of Twitter.
Of course, Elon Musk isn’t done with his part in the social media website’s future. In fact, he still intends to be involved with “production design” in addition to “new technology” regarding the service. As for the new CEO, however, she’ll handle the business part of things.
Elon Musk revealed as much in a brief tweet where he revealed Linda Yaccarino the new CEO of Twitter:
“I am excited to welcome Linda Yaccarino as the new CEO of Twitter!”
Elon Musk continues:
“@LindaYacc will focus primarily on business operations, while I focus on product design & new technology.”
He finishes by emphasizing that his ultimate goal is to make Twitter into “the everything app.”
“Looking forward to working with Linda to transform this platform into X, the everything app.”

Of course, despite Musk’s enthusiasm, many Twitter users are upset with the decision. As a result, “#RIPTwitter” started to trend while users voiced their complaints. Here are some of the tweets made in response to Musk’s announcement:
The only conclusion I can make is that someone must have threatened Elon & or his family.#RIPTwitter

RIP Twitter is right. If @elonmusk just surrendered to the WEF then there’s no going back.#RIPTwitter#TwitterIsDead https://t.co/MDKISNDAHc

Damn.
6 months of Free Twitter and it all goes to hell. Guess we’ll have to find the next new platform.
I’m watching & waiting.
Hoping it’s NOT ——> #RIPTwitter— Shannon Joy (@ShannonJoyRadio) May 12, 2023

#RIPTwitter is back in the autofill. It’s just not trending, and it should be. What is WRONG with you @elonmusk? This kind of censorship is precisely what has us concerned and VERY angry.

I regret paying 126.00 dollars for a years subscription to Twitter – they’ll never get another dime from me!#RIPTWITTER #Unsubscribe

I was 24 hours away from paying for Twitter Blue but thanks to Elon’s short-sighted rejection of why he bought Twitter in the 1st place that money will be used for something more productive. Terrible hire. #RIPTwitter https://t.co/C3Ht8IsVk6

In addition to Musk’s previous statement, however, it’s also worth noting that he previously stated his desire to remain as executive chairman and CTO of the company in addition to owner of Twitter. As such, we can assume that his influence will still be felt throughout Yaccarino’s own executive decisions going forward. Of course, this still makes Twitter a divisive environment with some users preferring one type of person over the other. Only time will tell how – or if – users eventually warm up to the decisions being made.
Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for additional updates on Twitter and Elon Musk as we have them. It’s certainly been a fascinating journey to see Musk take hold of the social media platform and make it his own, for better or worse. Now we’ll see what happens with Linda Yaccarino as CEO.
