It’s been more than twenty years since the first My Big Fat Greek Wedding film was released in 2002. Now My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3 is on the way – and the first official trailer has been released.
Interestingly, star Nia Vardalos not only returns to write the third entry, but they’ll also be serving as director for the first time ever. In addition to Vardalos, the film also features returning co-stars John Corbett, Louis Mandylor, Elena Kampouris, Maria Vacratsis, Andrea Martin, Gia Carides, Joey Fatone and Lainie Kazan. There will also be a few newcomers. This includes Elias Kacavas and Melina Kotselou. The film is also said to pay tribute to late actor Michael Constantine.
Here’s the official trailer for My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3:
The original film, which was released in 2002, went on to earn a total of $368 million worldwide at the box office. It became such a success that Vardalos would eventually earn an Academy Award nomination for best original screenplay. As such, it may be surprising to see that it took the film so long to become a franchise. But it’s a testament to its staying power that we’re still getting a third film more than two decades later.
The third outing will once again be produced by Tom Hanks, Rita Wilson, and Gary Goetzman. Paul Brooks, Scott Niemeyer, and Steven Shareshian also return to executive produce.
Fans will be able to see the new sequel in theaters on September 8, 2023. Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates on the highly-anticipated romcom as we have them. After the success of its two predecessors, it’ll be exciting to see how well this new film does at the box office and with fans of the original two films. Especially when the second likewise managed to be a success after such a gap since the original was released.
