The hit television series Yellowstone is coming to an end after its fifth series. Fortunately, however, it won’t be a permanent conclusion. A sequel series to Yellowstone is also in the works.
It’s been noted by Variety that “with the final episodes of the megahit Paramount Network series’ fifth season set to launch in November,” it will be followed by “an untitled sequel series.” This sequel series is set to “debut on Paramount Network in December” with a later release set for Paramount Plus.
The reason to cancel Yellowstone despite its immense success revolves around Kevin Costner. It seems the actor’s schedule became too busy to work on the Paramount series:
The announcement comes after months of speculation that Kevin Costner would be leaving the series, reportedly over his desire to focus on the epic two-part Western feature ‘Horizon,’ which would have seriously impacted his availability to film ‘Yellowstone.'”
Chris McCarthy, president & CEO of Showtime and MTV Entertainment Studios released the following statement:
“’Yellowstone’ has been the cornerstone on which we have launched an entire universe of global hits – from ‘1883’ to ‘Tulsa King,’ and I am confident our ‘Yellowstone’ sequel will be another big hit, thanks to the brilliant creative mind of Taylor Sheridan and our incredible casts who bring these shows to life,” says McCarthy.
Of course, because the sequel series is in early development, it’s unknown what exact direction this Yellowstone sequel could take. But it’s expected that several characters would return for the series, with Matthew McConaughey reportedly in talks to join the cast.
David Glasser, CEO of 101 Studios, also adds the following statement regarding the sequel project:
“The Dutton story continues, picking up where Yellowstone leaves off in another epic tale. We are thrilled to bring this new journey to audiences around the world,” Glasser adds.
