A 2017 box office bomb is finding new life on Netflix. The otherwise hated movie has already reached the Top 10 most-watched titles on the streaming service.
As shared via FlixPatrol, the thriller film The Snowman, which stars Michael Fassbender, hit #1 on Netflix’s Top 10 this month. This is quite impressive considering how disappointed audiences seemed to feel when the film was first released.
In fact, over on Rotten Tomatoes, The Snowman actually holds a 6% rating. Nevertheless, viewers on Netflix seem more than ecstatic to watch the film. And while the film may not receive any newfound critical appraisal – it’s nice to see it have some new attention. The film itself was plagued with production problems from the very beginning. In fact, Martin Scorsese was attached to direct The Snowman before dropping out.
As such, the troubled production certainly didn’t do the film any favors. It ultimately earned only $43.1 million worldwide on a budget of $35 million. But, thanks to streaming services like Netflix, movie lovers can give the film another chance. Though, as mentioned, it’s unlikely that there will be any major difference in opinion with critics.
Either way, it’s interesting to see a film about a serial killer get so much attention. The plot of the film revolves around a detective who investigates the disappearance of a woman. Her scar, found on a snowman, leads into a hunt for a serial killer that’s soon known as “the Snowman Killer.”
Tomas Alfredson ultimately directed the film with a screenplay by Peter Straughan, Hossein Amini, and Søren Sveistrup adapted from the novel of the same name by Jo Nesbo.
In addition to Michael Fassbender, the film stars Rebecca Ferguson, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Val Kilmer, and J.K. Simmons. Of course, with a cast like that, it isn’t hard to see why some viewers would find a new reason to check out the film.
