The upcoming film Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is expected to be a rather conclusive installment for the MCU series. Several cast members, and director James Gunn, have hinted that there would be a certain finality to this film. Now Zoe Saldana has even confirmed that her time as Gamora for Marvel is over.
She revealed as much while speaking with THR. Interestingly, however, she notes that despite leaving the franchise – there could be more Guardians of the Galaxy content in the future. It would simply have to be without her character.
Saldana began with the following:
“I don’t think this is the end for the Guardians.”
Here’s what Gamora actress then had to say about her time with Marvel:
“It is the end for me, for Gamora.”
It’s no doubt a disappointing statement for anyone hoping that she’d stick around as Gamora. Especially given how beloved her character has become over the years. She’s not only appeared in both current Guardians of the Galaxy films, with an upcoming role in the third, but she also appeared in two Avengers films. It’s definitely a lot and, as such, it makes sense why she might be ready to retire from the part.
Either way, it certainly means that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3. will be a rather important film for the franchise. Fans will no doubt be eager to see it just so that they can have one last ride with some of their favorite heroes.
Original Guardians of the Galaxy and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 director James Gunn returned to direct this third installment.
The cast for the upcoming film features returning stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, and the voice talents of Bradley Cooper and Vin Diesel. Will Poulter is joining the cast as Adam Warlock.
The highly-anticipated sequel Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will be released on May 5, 2023. Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates on this upcoming MCU project as we have them.
