The next film adaptation of Dune, titled Dune: Part Two, will conclude the story of Denis Villeneuve’s take on the material. Now the first look at Dune: Part Two has been released online.
A number of images from Dune: Part Two have been shared by Vanity Fair. As such, we now know what characters will be joining the story and which will be returning. Of course, this second chapter is designed to adapt the parts of the original novel that the first film couldn’t. The story is considered just too vast for one film. So fans should view this as a continuation rather than a new story.
“It’s important—it’s not a sequel, it’s a second part. There’s a difference,” Villeneuve explains to Vanity Fair. “I wanted the movie to really open just where we left the characters. There’s no time jump. I wanted dramatic continuity with part one.”
As fans can see in the images below, Florence Pugh has joined as Princess Irulan. Here’s what Villeneuve had to say about her involvement:
“Her stake could not be higher because she’s afraid that her father could lose the throne, could lose everything. When I met Florence, I was struck by her assurance, how grounded she is as a young woman, how direct, how unapologetic. She has something inherently royal about her. I will definitely believe that Florence could become, in the future, a prime minister.”
Similarly, Austin Butler joins the film as Feyd-Rautha. Fans may recognize him from the hit film Elvis.
“Austin Butler brought to the screen something that would be a cross between a psychotic, sociopath serial killer and Mick Jagger,” says Villeneuve.
It’s certainly an exciting first look at Dune: Part Two. Hopefully we’ll be able to see our first footage from the film soon. For now, though, this is an exciting glimpse at what’s to come and both some of the returning and new cast members we have to look forward to.
Fans will be able to see Dune: Part Two on November 3, 2023. Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates regarding the highly-anticipated follow-up as we have them.
