The Conjuring film franchise now consists of several main entries with an additional set of spin-offs. The latest installment in the main series, however, has now been revealed. The Conjuring 4 will officially be titled The Conjuring: Last Rites.
Excitingly enough, this title was revealed at a time when the franchise already had several new projects in the works. There’s still The Nun 2 which will be released later this year in addition to a newly-announced Conjuring television series.
It’s clear that horror fans love the stories of Ed and Lorraine Warren, the real-life paranormal investigators on which the leads of The Conjuring are based. And so now we’ll definitely be getting more of their cases adapted for the screen. Furthermore, it’s been said via Bloody-Disgusting that The Conjuring 2 and The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It writer David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick is set to pen the fourth film in the series.
At this time, however, plot details are unavailable. But it’s been said that James Wan and Peter Safran will both return to produce the latest installment. Furthermore, it’s unknown if franchise stars Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga will be returning, but one can hope they will. Their performances as Ed Warren and Lorraine Warren, respectively, have resonated with horror fans for just about a decade now. They’re part of what makes this series work – although many of the spin-offs have certainly proven there are possibilities to explore other parts of the universe.
In fact, as mentioned, there is a television series in the works as well. It’s possible that The Conjuring: Last Rites could tie into its story. We’ll just have to see what happens. With seven films including spin-offs, with an eighth film due later this year, they certainly have enough material to pull from.
Fans can stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates on The Conjuring: Last Rites AKA The Conjuring 4 and any other upcoming projects from the franchise as we have them. It’s a great time to be a horror fan.
