Beetlejuice 2 is one project that Warner Bros. has been attempting to crack for decades. Now, however, Warner Bros. Discovery has officially announced that Beetlejuice 2 is happening.
This exciting announcement was made at this year’s CinemaCon 2023 event. Of course, it might not be that surprising, as many strong rumors indicated that the film was in development already. In fact, many rumors claim that Wednesday and Scream star Jenna Ortega is in talks to star.
For now, however, there is no confirmation regarding her involvement or anyone else from the original. But it seems more than likely that Michael Keaton would return to reprise his role as the titular character. Especially having just returned to play Batman for the upcoming DC superhero film The Flash.
Likewise, it’s unknown if Tim Burton will return to direct the latest installment. But rumors surrounding the aforementioned involvement of Jenna Ortega further claimed that Burton, Keaton, and even Winona Ryder would all return for the sequel. As such, we’ll have to see what other official announcements could follow.
For now, it looks like Warner Bros. Discovery is finally tackling the long-awaited sequel, and fans will finally get to return to the exciting world of the original film. Though Beetlejuice was a critical and box office success, the direction for any future films seemed unclear, and at most fans were treated to an animated series in the 1990s. But the popularity of the character has only continued to grow over the years, with musicals, cameos, and other such tie-ins keeping the brand alive.
Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional Beetlejuice 2 updates as we have them. It’ll definitely be interesting to see what direction they plan to take with this new installment. Especially if production on this film is slated to begin sooner rather than later.
