Despite the notoriety of the film over the years, and it’s newfound attention on Netflix, Splice was actually a box office bomb. Surprisingly, even at the time, the film received positive reviews from critics. It seems like Splice was a concept just too ahead of its time in 2010. Now, however, with advances in technology and viewers more immersed in such concepts, it seems like the perfect time for this underappreciated flick to find new life on streaming.
The film was directed by Vincenzo Natali from a screenplay Natali wrote with Antoinette Terry Bryant and Doug Taylor. The story for the film was penned by Natali and Bryant. Guillermo del Toro, Don Murphy, and Joel Silver were executive producers while Steve Hoban produced.
