Sony has been eagerly developing their shared universe of films featuring popular Spider-Man villains. Of course, while other “spider-people” are getting their own spin-offs in the next few years, the next project will be yet another villain film. This time fans will get Kraven the Hunter – the first official footage for which has been shared at CinemaCon 2023.
The footage was released by Sony during their panel at the event. They’ve prepared footage and news for a variety of upcoming flicks. But, of course, Kraven the Hunter is at the top of the list for many Spider-Man fans. And Sony most certainly did not disappoint as they knew what audiences were eager to see. Now fans can get their first footage of Aaron Taylor-Johnson as the titular villain and that he will have the character’s iconic fur. Additionally, the footage also reveals that fellow villain Rhino will make an appearance in the film.
If that wasn’t enough, fans were also surprised by the violence featured in the trailer. It’s clear that this won’t be your average PG-13 superhero movie. In fact, Kraven the Hunter is an outright R-rated blockbuster event. And with characters like Rhino thrown into the mix – it’ll be exciting to see what Sony has in store – but fans will have to wait until this Summer for the trailer to be released to the public.
As such, the footage certainly promises an interesting take on the iconic villain. With this being Kraven’s first live-action film appearance, however, fans are no doubt going to be anxious until they see the finished product in theaters. Especially given the mixed reception between Venom and its sequel being praised and Morbius being ridiculed. But this is certainly a nice glimpse at what fans could expect for Kraven.
J.C. Chandor directed the upcoming film from a screenplay by Art Marcum & Matt Holloway and Richard Wenk. The film will be produced by Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach.
The cast for the new film includes Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Ariana DeBose, Fred Hechinger, Christopher Abbott, Alessandro Nivola, and Russell Crowe.
Audiences will be able to see Kraven the Hunter when it hits theaters later this year on October 6, 2023. Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for additional updates on the highly-anticipated film as we have them. Hopefully it won’t be much longer before we have our next look at the new Spider-Man spin-off.
