Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight book franchise is being brought to life in an all-new way. Specifically, it looks like a Twilight TV series is now in development.
As shared via THR, a Twilight television project is in the works at Lionsgate Television. The script for the series is being penned by Sinead Daly. Furthermore, “Daly is working with Lionsgate TV to determine what the specific take on Twilight will be and if it will be a remake of Meyer’s books or a different offshoot.”
Thus it’s unknown if the series will re-adapt the novels for television or take a different approach. But, at a time when the Harry Potter books are being re-adapted as a TV series, anything is possible. Especially with this series being in early development – it could go either way.
Furthermore:
“The Twilight TV series is in its infancy and does not yet have a network/platform as sources say the studio, which controls the rights to the franchise, plans to lead the development on the project before shopping the rights to the package.”
They add that this means they have no timeline for when the series will be shopped to potential buyers. What they do know, however, is that “Meyer is expected to be involved in the television adaptation.” Additionally, Wyck Godfrey and former Lionsgate Motion Picture Group co-president Erik Feig are set to executive produce. They were previously involved with the film franchise with Feig having bought the rights to the books and Godfrey’s Temple Hill banner having produced all five movies. Feig’s Summit Entertainment distributed the titles.
We’ll likely hear more details on this project as development continues. Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates on this Twilight series as we have them. For now, though, this could be a major step forward for the brand following the success – and conclusion – of the films.
