Netflix has introduced plenty of new shows and films into the horror genre over the years. One such horror series, however, is making a comeback on Netflix after being cancelled several years ago.
As you can see below, social media users are rediscovering the series and just how terrifying it is. Many of these users claim to be “scared for life” as a result of the series, with some saying they’re just too afraid to even sleep.
It certainly goes to show just what kind of shelf life a horror project can have. And for this particular series, titled Marianne, it’s a triumph for something that was cancelled by the service as far back as 2020. Of course, that doesn’t seem to have hurt the series, with many users insisting that Marianne is a great example of the genre.
Here are some of the responses that users have shared on social media:
Not a movie but the scariest show/anything I’ve ever seen in my life was Marianne on Netflix. pic.twitter.com/fAHDnXKxPv

There’s this Netflix series called Marianne and it is absolutely CHILLING. I obviously hate it cause it’s french but with that aside, I’ve never been more frightened in my life, and I’ve been around horror films for a while. Truly scary stuff

If you wanna change up pace watch Marianne on Netflix. It’s French! It got cancelled (ofc Netflix) but stands on its own with a satisfying conclusion.

In Marianne, the way things come out of the dark, towards ‘you’ and become more distinct is so effective. I’m too scared to get up at night to go for a piss. Brilliant

It’s been 2 days since I saw episode 1 of #Marianne and I’m still a bit apprehensive to close my eyes to sleep. And keep my eyes open in the dark.
OK, I’m scared, alright?— LisaTroy_writes (@LisaTroy) September 17, 2019
Marianne is fucking me up. Rare to see horror throw scares at you so quick without becoming tiresome/funny after a few minutes. Haven’t been this scared of the dark since It follows. No joke made Partner take me to the bathroom in the middle of the night.

The French horror drama Marianne first premiered on Netflix in 2019. It was created, written, and directed by Samuel Bodin. Fortunately, despite the cancellation, the first and only season of the series does tell a complete stand-alone story. The narrative revolves around an author that moves back to her hometown and soon makes several terrifying discoveries. It’s a great setup and part of why so many viewers are scared of the series.
Of course, the horror genre always has ways of bringing a villain or threat back for another outing. And Netflix most certainly would have if they had decided to do a second season. But for what it is – Marianne seems to work perfectly as a single season. Especially if these responses from fans on social media are any indication.
Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional Netflix or horror updates as we have them. There’s always something worth looking out for. In the meantime, however, fans can currently stream the series Marianne on Netflix.
