Now that we have several Star Wars films and shows on the way – all of which take place across different eras – the timeline is going to be more complex than ever before. As such, Disney has officially announced nine new eras in which the Star Wars timeline will be divided.
The new eras, as shared at Star Wars Celebration 2023 via SlashFilm, are all represented with brand-new symbols. Additionally, they range as far back as 25,000 years before the Original Trilogy, with the “Dawn of the Jedi,” all the way to the “New Jedi Order.” It’s actually quite a sight to see – and fans are no doubt eager to see these gaps filled with new stories.
Here’s the list of all nine new eras for the Star Wars timeline below:
Dawn of the Jedi
The Old Republic
The High Republic
Fall of the Jedi
Reign of the Empire
Age of Rebellion
The New Republic
Rise of the First Order

A few of these eras have yet to be explored in live-action. Of course, James Mangold’s newly-announced Star Wars film and the upcoming Disney Plus series The Acolyte are set to change that. These aforementioned eras, set anywhere from a century to 25,000 years before the Prequel Trilogy, include the “Dawn of the Jedi,” “The Old Republic,” and “The High Republic.” It can be assumed that the “Fall of the Jedi” represents the era we see in the Prequel Trilogy, where Palpatine gradually destroys the Jedi Order and takes control.
The “Reign of the Empire” and “Age of Rebellion” are self-explanatory. These are obviously the periods following the events of Revenge of the Sith and around the time of the Original Trilogy. As for “The New Republic,” we’ve already seen a portion of this timeline, with the era having been explored in The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett. We’ll continue to see more of this time period with the upcoming series Ahsoka.
The “Rise of the First Order” appears to be an era closer to and including the Sequel Trilogy, albeit one that’s mostly unexplored, and then there’s the “New Jedi Order.” One can assume that this will be represented with the upcoming follow-up to The Rise of Skywalker. The film will include Daisy Ridley’s Rey as she begins building the titular new Jedi Order.
